The Rebel Witch: Rune & Gideon – A Glimmer of Trouble (and I’m Completely Invested)

Filed under: “I meant to take a break but accidentally read a whole book instead”)

I had every intention of pausing after Heartless Hunter. Truly. I needed time to recover, emotionally hydrate, maybe even read something light and fluffy. But nope—Rune and Gideon had other plans. The second I finished book one, I was headfirst into The Rebel Witch, and honestly? No regrets.

Because these two? They are walking tension. All sharp stares, unspoken truths, and “I don’t trust you but I might die for you anyway” energy. It’s deliciously complicated, borderline feral, and somehow still manages to pull at the heart in all the best ways.

They don’t give each other soft love. They give each other earned love. The kind that grows in the cracks. The kind that glimmers through all the grit.

And then there was this line that made me sit up straight and whisper “well, damn”:

“Live in the darkness for too long and eventually you won’t recognize the light. You will become the monsters you hate.”

Is this a fantasy novel or a therapy session? Because I felt that. Rune is walking a razor’s edge between survival and self-loss, and Gideon—broody, unreadable, maybe-slightly-unhinged Gideon—isn’t helping… or maybe he is, in the strangest, most complicated way.

And yet, through all the mistrust and mayhem, there’s a spark between them. A glimmer of something real. Fragile. Earned. Just enough to keep you hoping.

But after all that delicious emotional damage and magical chaos, I think I’ve earned a break. So I’ll be taking a little breather—with something lighter, sweeter, and probably involving a quirky coffee shop and a guaranteed happy ending. Yes, it’s time for a romcom. Preferably one with crescents or other French pastries.

(But don’t worry, Rune and Gideon—I’ll come back. I always do.)
