The Mushroom That Interrupted My Wandering Mind

This wasn’t part of a peaceful morning walk, exactly. It started with me sitting on the deck, doing a bit of quiet reflecting — the kind that wanders everywhere and nowhere all at once. I had some starter herbs I wanted to pot up, and I remembered I’d left my gardening gloves on the front stoop. So, naturally, I went to go get them.

But in true Wallflower fashion, I got completely sidetracked.

I found myself walking down the front steps to check on a new flower bed — the one I planted recently and have been doting on like a newborn. I wanted to see if the plants really needed watering or if they could hold out a little longer.

By this time, it was 11:OO A.M.ish and felt like I’d stepped into an oven. I was just about to run back inside, deciding I’d water them later when things cooled down, when something in the side yard stopped me.

It was like this little thing had shouted, “Hey! You there! Look at me!”

A single mushroom, standing proud and weird and wonderful.

I didn’t have my phone on me, so I raced back to get it — because mushrooms are like shy houseguests: they show up overnight and often vanish before dinner.

I tried using my iPhone photo app to ID it… no dice. Apparently, even technology needs coffee to wake up.

So no, I still don’t know what kind of mushroom this is. But for a moment, it made me pause. It gave me that little jolt of excitement — the kind that reminds you the world is still full of surprises, even in your own side yard.

So here’s to the mystery mushroom that brought a sparkle to my late morning and a question I’m still happily not done asking.

If you happen to know what this funky fungi is, drop it in the comments — curious minds (and clearly, easily distracted) want to know! 🍄💭
